Dave Atkin Beautiful, your voice reminds me of Wazimbo, very sweet. Great to hear the Kasai Masai boys playing up a storm too. Favorite track: Palibe Chopambana.

about

Born and raised in Malawi, Humphries spent his youth immersed and inspired by Malawian folk music. He now lives in London and has spent the last three years on a musical journey, writing and recording the album “Malawi''.

“The idea was to create a unique sound of Africa by fusing Malawian traditional music with Soukous guitar. I was fortunate enough to meet Otis Tabasenge, a hugely talented Congolese guitarist and an original member of Wenge Musica. He introduced me to Claude Bula, another Congolese bassist who has played with Defao as well as an amazing drummer, David Lessle.”

Otis and Claude also currently tour with Kanda Bongoman’s band and all three members of the rhythm section are part of a vibrant London Soukous scene. The team got together at MAP Recording Studio in Kentish Town and under Humphries direction set about creating this unique take on traditional African dance styles. The result is a record that transports you to world of sunshine, joy, hardship, beauty and dancing!
